433 Position Descriptions

This is the preferred formation under the FFSA guidelines as it encourages positive play, and requires building up from the back.

Players need to develop a wide range of skills, including very precise passing skills

There’s heaps here, so look for your position and really concentrate. Points to note: 

  • Pressure and cover shape in defence
  • Role of full backs in attacks
  • Midfield shape and movement
  • Dynamic passing 

Press, Cover and Balance

Zonal defence systems have replaced man-to-man marking schemes in most top clubs.

why play 433?

The FFA considers 4-3-3 to be the best formation to develop young players. It promotes a possession-based philosophy that encourages players to pass through the field and develop their skills, rather than rely on power and strength.
