Key Skills

Become better technically

You can’t play soccer without the ball. But without a decent first touch, you won’t have the ball very long.

Probably the most efficient way of moving the ball around defending players, passing is probably the most important skill in soccer.

The flip side to passing, receiving the ball cleanly gives you more time to control the ball, and pass it on, shoot or dribble.

Find space and time by knowing how to turn away from pressure.

La Croqueta

This is a relatively simple, but very effective skill that may be used to beat an opponent either when you’re standing still, or moving at pace.

V Drag

Incredibly effective, as well as being part of fundamental ball-mastery. This video shows a slightly more advanced version for beating anyone.

Chop

Made famous by Cristiano Ronaldo and others. You don’t need to be a professional to learn and execute this very effective skill.

Step Over

A fundamental but very deceptive skill when running with the ball. This video shows the single and double scissors (aka step over).

Cryuff Turn

Named after the great Johann Cryuff, this is a straightforward but fantastically useful turn.

Bergkamp Flick

Yes… we did do this in training, but it’s not really the Bergkamp, which is actually an inside flick. And it’s probably not a percentage option.

Suggest you check out “turns” above.
